One-year anniversary of BYOPV at SPECTRE arts.

What a great crowd we had at October’s BYOP&V gathering! Thanks again to filmmaker Ivan Weiss for sharing an advanced screening of his film "The Education of Ida Owens" and to everyone that attended for your thought provoking comments and conversation. See you in November!


Thanks to everyone who came out for our BYOP&V gathering in July. And a special thank you to Danell Beede and Nick Michael for sharing their inspiring work!

We’re looking forward to seeing you on October 10 for an evening with documentary filmmaker Ivan Weiss.


It was great to see some BYOP&V faces at the opening of Sarah Stacke’s exhibition,Love From Manenberg, at the Daylight Project Space in Hillsborough! If you missed the opening, the exhibition will be up until August 26th, so definitely go check it out.

Our next gathering will be on Tuesday, July 23rd at Michelle’s house. We’re looking for people to share their work, check your inboxes for more info!

BYOP&V: Thursday, May 9 at 7pm!

Maggie will share a project focusing on issues of incarceration and the transition back to society. This untitled work-in-progress is composed of a series of oral histories, coupled with portraits, featuring women who have been incarcerated in North Carolina.

Bottom: Peanuts in Halifax County by Michelle Lotker.
Michelle will present a work-in-progress called Peanuts in Halifax County (working title). This short video visits people that grow peanuts in Halifax County, NC and hopes to grant insight into the process and legacy of growing peanuts.

Thank you all for contributing to the success of the first BYOP&V gathering! Catherine Orr and Elena Rue of StoryMineMedia and Roger May shared beautiful, powerful work and the fifteen member audience offered insightful and thoughtful feedback.  We are looking forward to round two!


The inaugural BYOP&V gathering is at 7 pm on Friday, March 29!  BYOP&V stands for “bring your own photo & video” and is a space for visual artists to share work with the Triangle’s immensely talented and creative community.  The group has been co-founded by videographer Michelle Lotker and photographer Sarah Stacke.
We are so pleased to announce the presenters for our first gathering: Catherine Orr and Elena Rue of StoryMineMedia and Roger May.

BYOP&V General Info:

  • BYOP&V was co-founded by videographer Michelle Lotker and photographer Sarah Stacke.
  • BYOP&V is also BYOB!
  • We would love to know if you’re coming, but an RSVP is not necessary.
  • All are welcome to share work, time permitting. You can let us know beforehand if you would like to present work, or you can choose to be spontaneous.
  • Audio pieces are welcome.
  • In hopes of supporting all file types we will have both a Mac and PC available, along with a projector and speakers. Wi-Fi is available and viewing projects on Vimeo or YouTube is encouraged.
  • When presenting, please let the audience know the specific aspects of the work for which you would like feedback or would like to discuss with the group.
  • Feel free to invite others!
